We have a survival instinct inside of us where we look at a situation trying to find errors, flaws and anything else that can pose a threat. This instinct gets triggered more often when we feel we are under stress. Since we're looking for anything that's negative, it also makes us think in more negative ways. Anything that's new, or anything we wish for becomes a no-go. We're in survival mode and naturally want to stay in familiar situations we identify as safe. The longer we stay in this state of mind, the easier it is for us to create a belief system for ourselves where very few things are possible. We've created a limited belief system.
